If you're coming from years of Sims 3 or have never even played earlier titles, you're probably a little overwhelmed.

Here's the thing: Sims 3 is the black sheep. In a lot of ways. One big way was difficulty. In The Sims 3, everything is easy. Really easy. Anything that isn't easy is grindy. It's not hard, it just takes a lot of time. But in Sims 1 and 2, this was not so- there was actual difficulty! Here in Sims 4, it returns! Here's where, and how, and how to play with it.

MOTIVES

Motives drop a bit faster than in Sims 4, and raise a bit differently.

--Hunger:

Sims 4 Make Everyone Happy

Hunger drops pretty steadily throughout the day. You eat breakfast, but your sim will come home from work hungry. I don't think sims eat at work anymore, but if they do, it's a small snack. Hunger is filled a little bit faster by higher quality food (think of it as your sim eating it more enthusiastically because they like it more, whereas that mac and cheese came out a bit gross and they kinda pick around it). So make good food! You can save food in the fridge so you don't have to cook for every meal, and hovering over food tells you how long until it spoils now. If you leave it out, it spoils a lot faster than in the fridge.

Quick Meals from the fridge are a little faster to eat and don't require cooking, but they do not fill your hunger anymore (In Sims 3, they were a normal meal with no downsides.). Use them to top hunger off, not to fill it.

Keep in mind that lower quality foods are fattier than higher quality foods, and foods do have different health values for your sim. A salad will be better for them than cake, even though both fill hunger. Your sim will get fat if you feed them quick meals all the time..

--Hygiene:

Hygiene is pretty basic. It drops faster when you're working out and being active. The shower is powerful now: You can take multiple types of showers to influence your mood. Trying to get two sims to flirt quickly? Make them both take steamy showers! Trying to get a sim to do something he's too tired for? A Brisk shower will make them Energized! I think the other type makes them confident, but I don't remember. If your sim has to work soon, they can wash their hands or brush their teeth on the sink for a quick mini-boost of hygiene.

Better showers raise your mood much faster!

--Bladder:

Make your sim go pee, ya dingus.

--Social:

Multitasking basically makes social go on auto-pilot. For the most part you don't have to worry about it, and it's not really a problem to begin with.

--Energy:

Sleeping is a bit mid-difficulty this time around. You don't sleep for too long, and cheap beds don't seem to give bad moodlets. But better beds make you energized faster, way faster! The most expensive (locked) bed raises your energy really fast, and a night of sleep goes by much faster.

--Fun:

Pretty self-explanatory. You can make your sim have more fun more quickly with mood auras!

MOODS

Moods are basically a modifier that changes how your sim interacts with the world. You can place decorative objects with different effects- such as making your sim flirty, confident, focused, playful. If you place such an object you can click on it and view it to get a boost of mood, or 'Enable Mood Aura' to make the object literally EXUDE the mood into the room. Put a few playful objects by the computer and your sim will get into gaming quickly and have more fun! Put inspired objects by it and you can easily be inspired to write great novels! Play around with decor!

FURNITURE

Better furniture = Better motive gain = More free time = More Skills = Better Job Performance = Better Salary = Better furniture = Better life! You will have a bit of trouble keeping your sims happy with cheap furniture. You will have a lot less trouble if everything is high-end! You can see the motive ratings for furniture in the catalog on their tooltip. If you like the look of a lower-quality furniture over a higher one, that's a trade-off. You can min-max and only get the best, or you can get what you like. If you get what you like, get the good stuff where it matters! Do not skimp on showers, toilets, stoves, sinks, etc. Anything your sim uses passively to directly influence an important motive, especially stuff they use to prepare for work. If your sim sleeps better he can go to bed later and have more free time. If he showers faster and eats better, he can go to work happier.

A good tip to make breakfast easier is to lay the kitchen out in a line. A stove next to a fridge looks nice. But it's not efficient! Fridge -> Counter -> Stove -> Counter -> Dining area! This way your sim doesn't waste any time in the process walking back and forth. Even a single trip back one tile to another counter or the stove can waste a bit of time. If your setup is Dining Area -> Fridge -> Stove -> Sink -> Counter, your sim has to go three tiles to a counter to prep food, back two tiles to the stove to cook it, back two tiles to put it on the counter, and then back four tiles to eat. That eats up more time than you'd expect!

WORK

Work has a new system for performance. You have two main goals to complete clearly visible on the work panel. But don't forget! There's a third daily goal! Hover over the work goal panel and you'll see. For example, a criminal sim might have 'Mischief Actions' as his daily goal. He has to perform 8-10 of these per day for a little boost to his work performance! If sims go to work in a good mood, they perform better. And when you click the little icon on their portrait in the UI while at work, you can choose work tones (Slack off, work hard, etc). Hovering over the tones tells you what they do and whether or not they lower performance, and what the benefit is to doing them. Slacking off lowers performance but can be used to make sure your sim comes home happy. Most importantly, take things slow. Don't rush to get promoted ASAP every time. You have 40+ sim days for a young adult before they're an elder, that's plenty of time even if they only get promoted once a week. Don't forget there's a potion you can buy with your aspiration points to reset your life state to the beginning!

TIME

Dead island free download pc. Sims don't travel in real world time. They move in real time, but their actions are longer or shorter. This is pretty balanced. I know people don't like 'It takes 10 minutes to pee?!', but you can't think of it that way. It's a strategy-ish game, remember! You know it takes that long to pee, so you can't really be upset if your sim gets up 40 minutes before work and can't prepare for the day. Use the above tips to manage time better and it won't be as bad, but don't let yourself get upset that things aren't 1:1 with the real world. If they were, the sims would either move lightning fast and the game would be a boring blur, or they'd move molasses slow and the game would be a boring..bore. Of slowness.

SUMMARY

Think of it like a strategy game. Better strategy means better reward, and in this case, a big reward is 'Free time for you to make your sims do what they please'. To get the most of your sim's short little time on sim earth, build them efficient houses, plan ahead, design rooms that make them happy and work with their actions, and keep their mood up by improving their skills and furniture in tandem with their job performance.

  • Growing Cow Plants

To grow the special Cow Plant, you must first acquire a rare Cow Plant seed. They can be found by traveling to the Desert Bloom lot in Oasis Springs, then move toward the public space behind the park where there is a rock canyon leading to a boarded up cave entrance. Along the rock walls are tiny ponds that are the source of the shallow stream. Fish at this area to eventually get a Cow Plant seed. Once you have a Cow Plant seed, return to your Sim's home lot. Drag the seed from your inventory onto the ground where you want to plant it. Once it is planted, make sure to water it daily, and eventually it will grow to full size. If the mound of dirt at the base turns light brown, it means the soil is dry and needs watering. A fully grown Cow Plant is a dangerous creature. They generate rejuvenating milk after eating Sims that are fooled by their false cake tongues. Additionally, make sure to keep feeding your Cow Plant meat when it is fully grown or else it may die. The Cow Plant was first introduced in The Sims 2.
