The Crystal Guardian encounter is an optional single phase boss fight located in the northern reaches of the Crystal Peak. The Crystal Guardian is initially resting on an area Bench, preventing the Knight from sitting down. In order to rest at the Bench, the Knight must attack and defeat the boss.

The Crystal Guardian has very few attacks and, while they cover large portions of the screen, they do not deal much damage. Because of this, the Crystal Guardian encounter is more about being deliberate about controlling your position than anything else. Keep that in mind, heal often, and stay patient to claim victory.
The first attack used by the Crystal Guardian is a crystal beam attack. The boss will send out a non-damaging targeting beam before firing, so you’ll have a moment of warning before the attack comes. Jump as soon as the boss starts preparing the attack, then dash and attack with the Nail or simply jump and cast Vengeful Spirit.
Casting Vengeful Spirit has the added bonus of causing you to momentarily hover in midair, so use it if you need to avoid dropping back into the beam.
The second attack used by the Crystal Guardian is a short sequence of two to three hops. The boss will jump high into the air, then come crashing down to the ground. Because these hops are executed quickly, sidestepping or dashing away is a solid defensive option.
If you can tell the Crystal Guardian will land near you, use the Howling Wraiths/Abyss Shriek Spell to deal damage as it descends, then attack with the Nail before the next attack begins.
The third attack used by the Crystal Guardian is a area-wide vertical beam attack. The boss will shout, much as they did when the fight began, then several targeting beams will appear at various intervals across the screen.
Sidestep or dash away from the targeting beam before the attack launches, then counter attack with Vengeful Spirit or your Nail, but be warned; the boss can summon this attack simultaneously to the crystal beam attack. Exercise patience, bring the Quick Focus charm and heal when you can, and you’ll emerge victorious.

After you’ve defeated the Crystal Guardian, you’ll gain access to the Bench, the Guardian will flee to the room above, and the gates will open. If you have the Monarch Wings and the Mantis Claw, head right and hop up into the room above to fight the more powerful Enraged Guardian.
The attacks of the Enraged Guardian deal more damage, and the sequence of vertical crystal beams will come in rapid succession, but the boss is otherwise the same as the Crystal Guardian, and all the same strategies still work. Defeat the Enraged Guardian to obtain a Mask Shard.
